Job summary

Southeastern Freight Lines in Memphis, Tennessee, is seeking a full-time Inbound Freight Handler. You will load and unload freight, position it safely, and use forklifts and related equipment to move, stack, and secure cargo.

You will weigh, measure, and verify shipments, plan cube utilization and weight distribution, inspect freight for damage, review bills and manifests, and verify hazardous material paperwork.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Background check and drug testing required.
• Prior forklift operator, dock or warehouse experience preferred.
• Forklift certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload freight using safe lifting techniques and equipment.
• Weigh and dimension shipments to ensure proper classification and safe handling.
• Plan cube utilization and weight distribution when loading freight.
• Count and inspect freight and document shortages or damage.
• Review freight bills for special instructions and verify labels and destination codes.
• Check manifests for exceptions and verify paperwork against freight bills.
• Verify hazardous material descriptions and ensure proper placarding when loading hazardous material.
• Block and brace freight to prevent shifting during transport.
