Job summary

Butler Machinery and Lake Area Technical College invite high school juniors and seniors to join the ThinkBIG program in Watertown, SD. Students earn an Associate of Applied Science in Diesel Technology after completing 2 years of lab and classroom training combined with paid internships at Butler Machinery dealerships.

Internships rotate through LATC and stores, with a strong emphasis on safety and hands-on learning.

Qualifications

• High school junior or senior eligibility.
• Diploma or GED required at program start.
• Must be 18 by first internship.
• Electronic application through our website.
• LATC acceptance by deadline.
• Applied knowledge of basic mechanical theory.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Proficient computer technology skills.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Able to meet insurability requirements to drive a company vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Maintains a minimum GPA of 3.0 in the program.
• Complete required internship hours (1,280 hours).
• Be prepared on time for work and school.
• Maintain a safe and clean work environment.
• Work independently and as part of a team.
• Tuition, books, housing, tools and fees are not covered by scholarship.
• Arrange housing near school and internship site.
• Commit to lifelong learning and industry training.
• Must lift up to 70 lbs.
• Other duties as assigned.
