Job summary

Veeco Instruments Inc. is seeking a Process Development Engineer to support process development, demonstrations, and qualification activities for Veeco's ion beam deposition systems.

You will work with customers, product management, and engineering to develop, optimize, and validate thin-film deposition processes for optical, semiconductor, and photonics applications. The role combines hands-on lab work with documentation, troubleshooting, and customer support, including occasional travel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with 5+ years in thin-film deposition, or Master’s with 3+ years.
• Hands-on vacuum, thin-film deposition, process development, materials characterization, or related manufacturing.
• Experience in a lab/manufacturing environment and ability to communicate technical findings clearly.
• Willingness to travel 10–20% domestically and internationally for customer activities.

Responsibilities

• Execute thin-film deposition experiments using Veeco ion beam systems.
• Support process development, optimization, and characterization activities under technical guidance.
• Collect, analyze, and summarize process data to support evaluations and development work.
• Prepare technical reports, test summaries, procedures, and process documentation.
• Assist with customer demonstrations and qualification activities.
• Collaborate with applications, engineering, product management, and field teams for new product introductions.
• Troubleshoot process and equipment-related issues and implement corrective actions.
• Support process transfer, training, and occasional onsite activities.
• Maintain familiarity with system hardware, diagnostics, and process interactions for lab execution.
• Support day-to-day operation and uptime of sputtering systems at Veeco's R&D location.
