Job summary

United Launch Alliance is seeking a Thermodynamics Engineer RS-1 to join our team in Centennial, Colorado, working on thermal analyses for Atlas V and Vulcan launch vehicle systems and supporting the ICPS for NASA's SLS.

This role performs thermal engineering analyses and contributes to design verification, performance prediction, and test planning to ensure temperature limits are met and mission success is achieved.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Course work in thermodynamics, fluid dynamics and heat transfer.
  • Interest in heat transfer, energy balances, thermal system design and analysis.
  • Ability to counter-check results with heat transfer hand calculations and energy balances.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop approaches, methodologies and tools to solve complex system problems using analytical modeling and empirical methods.
  • Performs thermal analysis for the booster, upper stage and launch facilities at component and system levels.
  • Defines and controls requirements related to design, development and operation of launch systems.
  • Develops procedures and plans for thermal test programs when needed.
  • Resolves thermal issues arising during production and launch operations.
  • Develops analysis processes to reduce cost and risk and improve vehicle performance.
