Job summary

Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA) seeks a skilled Thermal/Power Plant Operator to ensure reliable heat and power for Deer Island facilities. Under the Thermal/Power Plant Chief Engineer, you will operate, adjust and maintain high- demand equipment, run safety procedures, and maintain accurate logs.

The role requires a Massachusetts Third Class Engineer's License and at least three years of relevant experience, with a focus on safety, coordination and minimal supervision.

Qualifications

• High school education or equivalent.
• At least three years of experience operating Thermal/Power Plant equipment.
• Massachusetts Third Class Engineer's License.
• Productivity improvement competency training related to essential duties.
• Designation as essential personnel in emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Operates, adjusts and maintains Thermal/Power Plant equipment including high pressure boilers, turbines, generators, fuel oil and gas systems.
• Conducts SOPs for Thermal/Power Plant and electrical distribution systems.
• Inspects machinery to determine efficiency and maintenance needs.
• Maintains operating logs and reports abnormalities.
• Monitors pressures, temperatures, flows, amperage, voltage and power, and adjusts accordingly.
• Coordinates with plant personnel and follows Lockout/Tagout procedures.
• Directs chemical and fuel deliveries and orders as required.
• Performs light maintenance and basic repairs to equipment as needed.
• Ensures safety and housekeeping in the work area.
