Job summary

Relativity Space is seeking a Thermal Systems Engineer to drive the architecture, sizing, and development of insulation, heaters, and environmental conditioning for the Terran R vehicle. You will build and validate thermal analyses at multiple levels and support tool development for automated workflows.

You will guide design engineers, develop test plans, install instrumentation, and process data to ensure robust thermal performance during development, qualification, and flight operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field required.
• Experience with internships or university collaborations in industry is expected.
• Strong fundamentals in heat transfer and thermal analysis required.
• Hands-on experience writing test plans, instrumentation, and data analysis at component/system level.
• Experience with MATLAB or Python for engineering tasks.

Responsibilities

• Drive the architecture, sizing, and development of thermal systems (insulation, heaters, thermal protection, environmental conditioning).
• Build, execute, and validate thermal analyses at component, subsystem, and vehicle levels; support tool development and automation.
• Guide engineers in applying thermal sciences to meet system requirements.
• Develop and execute tests to support thermal systems development and qualification, including instrumentation and data processing.
• Support vehicle and engine thermal system development and flight/test operations.
