Job summary

NeuroPsychiatric Hospitals in Indianapolis, IN seeks a Certified Therapeutic Recreational Specialist to provide goal-directed interventions improving patients' physical, cognitive, emotional, and social functioning.

You will lead recreational therapy activities, collaborate with the treatment team, and promote patient independence through skilled leisure interventions. Orientation will cover BLS/HWC certs and internship requirements.

Qualifications

• Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) certification is required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) and Handle with Care (HWC) certification required, to be obtained during orientation.
• Completion of a supervised internship is required.
• Strong communication and organizational skills are essential.
• Experience in a behavioral health setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Observe, analyze, and record patients' participation, reactions, and progress; modify treatment programs as needed.
• Develop treatment plans based on initial assessments and patient goals.
• Encourage patients to engage in leisure activities to promote well-being.
• Counsel patients to develop leisure activities and coping skills.
• Confer with the treatment team to plan and evaluate therapy programs.
• Conduct group therapy sessions to improve mental and physical well-being.
• Instruct patients in activities like sports, arts, or relaxation techniques.
• Obtain information from records, staff, and families to assess needs.
• Ensure compliance with federal/state laws and hospital policies.
