Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreational Therapy or related field required.
• Three or more years' experience in recreation in a healthcare setting.
• CTRS or certification process; or licensure with expressive therapy certification required.
• CPR and de-escalation and restraint certification required.
• First aid may be required per state/facility.

Responsibilities

• Complete activity assessment through observation and interview to inform treatment plans.
• Plan, direct and implement activities within the treatment program to progress goals.
• Lead activities including therapeutic leisure, education and awareness.
• Facilitate sessions to improve mental and physical well-being.
• Instruct patients in activities such as sports, dance, music, art or relaxation techniques.
• Develop interventions to meet patient needs and goals.
• Engage patients in therapeutic activities and community outings.
• Help patients learn social skills for independence.
• Modify activities for groups' needs.
• Maintain a positive, empathetic attitude and address patient complaints.
