Job summary

Harboroaks seeks an Activity Therapist to plan, direct and implement activity therapy as part of the patient’s treatment plan. You will assess needs, design engaging activities and lead sessions to improve mental and physical well-being.

The role requires a Bachelor's in Therapeutic Recreation with 3+ years of healthcare recreation experience; CTRS or related certification is preferred or in progress, CPR/first aid training, and a compassionate team player attitude.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreational Therapy or related field required.
• Three or more years’ experience in recreation in a healthcare setting with knowledge of patient population served by the facility required.
• Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) or certification in expressive therapy area, or related clinical licensure, is required or in process.
• CPR, de-escalation and restraint certification required; first aid may be required based on state/facility requirements.

Responsibilities

• Complete activity assessment through patient observation and patient/family interview, obtaining information on needs, skills, interests and limitations for treatment plan development.
• Plan, organize, direct and implement activities within the treatment program to advance patient progress toward goals.
• Plan and implement activities including therapeutic leisure skills, leisure education and awareness.
• Facilitate and lead activity sessions to improve patient mental and physical well-being.
• Instruct patients in activities and techniques such as sports, dance, music, art or relaxation to meet needs.
• Develop treatment plans and interventions that meet patient needs and goals.
• Engage patients in therapeutic activities, such as exercise, games and community outings.
• Help patients learn social skills to become or remain independent.
• Modify activities to suit the needs of specific groups.
• Demonstrate a positive, empathetic and professional attitude; address complaints and prioritize patient safety.
