Job summary

The University of Kentucky's The Study Hub (TSH) invites undergraduate students to join as Peer Tutors and Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leaders. Based in Lexington, KY, tutors provide drop-in support to students in 100–200 level math, science, and business courses, helping with concepts, assignments, and exam prep.

SI Leaders plan weekly study sessions, integrate content review with effective learning strategies, and guide students to become independent learners.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • SI Leaders plan and facilitate weekly active learning study sessions for SI supported courses.
  • SI Leaders do not lecture but provide tools to help students process course material independently.

Salary Range: All undergraduate student employees are hourly employees. New student employees can expect to start at $12/hr, with the opportunity for raises.

Physical Requirements: Sitting and standing for long periods of time.


Shift: The Study Hub’s Peer Tutoring Program offers services Monday-Thursday 2pm – 10pm and Sundays 4pm-8pm. Student employees may have shifts during these times as well as occasional additional weekday and/or weekend hours. Student employees will submit their availability prior to the start of the term. Training is required for all TSH undergraduate student employee positions and is typically held a few days prior to the start of the academic term.

The Study Hub Peer Tutoring Program is currently hiring for MA 110, MA 111, MA 123 and Physics. This is a rolling application and qualified candidates will be contacted as positions become available.


The Study Hub Supplemental Instruction (SI) Program is currently hiring for MA 123.


The Study Hub (TSH), housed in the Office of Student Success, is UK’s centralized learning center and strives to create opportunities for student success through academic support initiatives. TSH serves the campus community through two pillar program areas: Integrated Success Coaching (ISC), and Peer Supported Learning (PSL). As a member of the TSH team, undergraduate student employees will serve as peer leaders who contribute to TSH’s mission of creating opportunities for student success through academic support initiatives and work to foster a welcoming and inclusive learning environment.


TSH employs undergraduate students in a variety of positions, and is currently seeking applicants for the following positions:



  • The Study Hub Peer Tutors provide drop-in academic support for undergraduate students enrolled in many 100 & 200 level math, science, and business courses. Peer Tutors assist small groups of students in fully understanding concepts, completing assignments, studying for exams, and honing their study skills. Peer Tutors are responsible for providing guidance through course content and support students in developing as independent learners.

  • The Study Hub Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leaders are trained to plan and facilitate weekly active learning study sessions for students enrolled in SI supported courses. SI study sessions integrate the review of course content with effective learning and studying strategies. SI Leaders do not lecture or teach new course material but provide students with the tools they need to understand and process course material themselves.
