As the most senior clinician, the post holder ensures robust clinical leadership, consistent standards of care, and professional supervision of all nursing and care staff.

This role combines hands‑on clinical practice with accountability for care standards, regulatory compliance, and continuous quality improvement. The post holder works closely with the Home Manager to ensure the delivery of person‑centred care and a culture of professional excellence across all areas of the home.

This role will require the post holder to deputise in the absence of the Home Manager, a responsibility that is shared with the Dementia Services Manager.

Pembroke House is a purpose built care home for veterans of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines in Gillingham. We have been serving Royal Navy and Royal Marines veterans and their dependants for over 70 years. Our residents and staff enjoy a varied yet familiar way of life to encourage independence and give each day meaning and purpose. The home has a ‘family run’ feel and we have carefully created a supportive, friendly and close knit team, making it a unique and very special place to work.

Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Provide strong, professional leadership and strategic direction in all aspects of clinical and care quality.
  • Ensure rigorous compliance with all relevant legislation, regulatory standards (including CQC, NICE, and safeguarding frameworks), and professional codes of practice.
  • Lead the development, implementation, and ongoing monitoring of care policies.
  • Consistently role model clinical excellence through professional conduct and capability, maintaining a visible, hands‑on presence in practice.
  • Provide on‑call and emergency cover in accordance with the rota agreed with the Home Manager.
  • Lead, manage, and be accountable for internal audits, inspections, and quality reviews.
  • Support recruitment activities, including campaign participation, candidate interviews, and selection processes, to maintain safe staffing levels and meet resident needs.
  • Role model the highest standards of care by actively engaging in clinical work where necessary to set clear expectations for staff.
  • Maintain an up‑to‑date and comprehensive understanding of Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) and the Mental Capacity Act, ensuring compliance in practice.
