Job summary

ENGIE North America is seeking a Texas and Mexico Natural Gas Trader to support growth and performance of the Mexico natural gas portfolio by managing physical supply activity and price risk across Texas and cross-border markets.

You will translate supply, demand, infrastructure, and pricing fundamentals into short-term and medium-term strategies that improve portfolio efficiency and identify commercial opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, mathematics, or a related discipline with quantitative and market-analysis skills.
  • A minimum of two years of natural gas trading or closely related commercial portfolio experience.
  • Working knowledge of Texas intrastate/interstate pipelines and U.S.-Mexico cross-border natural gas flow dynamics.
  • Strong knowledge of North American natural gas fundamentals including supply, demand, infrastructure, basis, index, and price-risk drivers.
  • Experience supporting physical natural gas transactions and financial hedging strategies.
  • Proficiency with Excel and at least one analytical or programming tool such as SQL, VBA, or Python.
  • Ability to work independently, solve complex problems, manage multiple time-sensitive assignments, and adapt as market conditions change.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including presenting market views and collaborating across teams.

Responsibilities

  • Manage physical and financial natural gas risk for the Texas and Mexico portfolio.
  • Purchase physical natural gas at U.S. receipt points and coordinate supply requirements and cross-border needs.
  • Develop and execute hedging strategies using physical purchases, basis positions, index swaps, fixed-price transactions, and time-spread opportunities.
  • Build and maintain analytical tools to improve portfolio visibility, efficiency, and risk management.
  • Analyze natural gas supply, demand, infrastructure, market participants, and pricing dynamics to form market views.
  • Coordinate with trading desk to optimize molecules, receipt-point exposure, and long/short positions.
  • Partner with origination and sales on pricing, transport capacity, supplier opportunities, and structured activity.
  • Apply critical thinking to understand competitors, counterparties, and opportunities in the U.S.-Mexico border market.

Job description

As a Texas and Mexico Natural Gas Trader, you will support the growth and performance of ENGIE's Mexico natural gas portfolio by managing physical supply activity and financial price risk across Texas and cross-border markets. Your day-to-day work will focus heavily on physical natural gas activity, supported by hedging, market analysis, and coordination with trading, origination, sales, scheduling, and portfolio teams. You will translate supply, demand, infrastructure, and pricing fundamentals into short-term and medium-term strategies that improve portfolio efficiency and identify commercial opportunities.

  • Manage physical and financial natural gas flat-price, basis, and index risk for the Texas and Mexico portfolio
  • Purchase physical natural gas at U.S. receipt points and coordinate supply requirements, transport capacity, and cross-border portfolio needs
  • Develop and execute hedging strategies using physical purchases, basis positions, index swaps, fixed-price transactions, and time-spread opportunities
  • Build and maintain analytical tools that improve portfolio visibility, efficiency, risk management, and trading decisions
  • Analyze natural gas supply, demand, infrastructure, market participants, and pricing dynamics to form short- and medium-term market views
  • Coordinate with the broader natural gas trading desk to optimize available molecules, receipt-point exposure, and long or short market positions
  • Partner closely with origination and sales teams on pricing, transport capacity, supplier opportunities, and structured commercial activity
  • Apply critical thinking and commercial judgment to understand competitors, counterparties, customers, and opportunities in the U.S.-Mexico border market
What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, mathematics, or a related discipline in which you developed quantitative and market-analysis skills

  • This role is based in Houston, Texas and is eligible for our hybrid work policy; 4 days in the office and 1 day working from home
  • Must be available to travel internationally to Mexico up to 30% of the time and with the need for some overnight trips
  • Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies;
Compensation

Salary Range: $135,000 - $224,900 USD annually

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

ENGIE complies with all federal, state, and local minimum wage laws. Actual salary offered may vary depending on geography, experience, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.

In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan.
