Job summary

CSG Talent is seeking a Test Systems Engineer to design, commission and improve powertrain test rigs and supporting lab equipment in California. This onsite role will integrate electrical, mechanical and controls systems, driving automation and instrumentation to deliver safe, accurate, and repeatable testing across development and production environments.

The Senior or Staff level engineer will work with engineering and manufacturing teams, suppliers, and cross‑functional partners to translate

Qualifications

  • 3+ years experience developing, commissioning or improving complex test systems.
  • Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics or Controls Engineering or related discipline.
  • Experience with Python, LabVIEW or PLCs for automation.
  • Instrumentation, sensors and data acquisition experience.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Design, commission and improve powertrain test rigs and supporting laboratory equipment.

Test Systems Engineer - Powertrain
Location: California, USA
Working arrangement: Onsite, five days per week
Level: Senior or Staff

We're supporting a growing technology business seeking a Test Systems Engineer to develop and improve test infrastructure supporting powertrain and electrical systems development.

This hands‑on role combines equipment commissioning, instrumentation, controls integration and laboratory automation.

You'll work closely with engineering and manufacturing teams to deliver safe, accurate and repeatable testing, taking ownership of equipment performance and laboratory practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, commission and improve powertrain test rigs and supporting laboratory equipment.
  • Integrate electrical, mechanical, controls integration and laboratory automation.
  • You'll work closely with engineering and manufacturing teams to deliver safe, accurate and repeatable testing, taking ownership of equipment performance and laboratory practices.
  • Work with cross‑functional teams and suppliers to translate engineering requirements in practical test solutions.
Experience and Skills
  • 3+ years' experience developing, commissioning or improving complex test systems.
  • A degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Controls Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong experience across several of the following: Electrical, mechanical or controls system integration.
  • Instrumentation, sensors, signal conditioning and data acquisition.
  • Controls integration and laboratory automation.
  • High‑voltage safety, interlocks and fault handling.
  • Calibration, uncertainty analysis and measurement repeatability.
  • Commissioning, troubleshooting and structured problem‑solving.
  • Experience with Python, LabVIEW, PLCs or comparable automation tools.
  • Strong communication skills and a practical, collaborative approach.
  • Relevant backgrounds include powertrain testing, automotive, aerospace, robotics, industrial automation and energy systems.
