Job summary

InDepth Engineering Solutions, LLC in Plymouth, United States, is seeking a Dyno Technician to operate and maintain dynamometers for electrified powertrain development and validation. You will work with Powertrain Test Engineers to install and configure test properties and ensure data quality for validation plans.

This role challenges you to troubleshoot operational issues, build test rigs with cross-functional teams, and document findings.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of Technician experience in test cells or large dynamometer systems.
• 2+ years experience with electrified vehicles.
• Expertise in instrumentation (Thermocouples, RTDs, Strain Gauges, Accelerometers, Hygrometers, Pressure Gauges, Flow Meters).
• Expertise in powertrain test setup and test error proofing.
• Expertise in mechanical tooling and build fixture design.
• Knowledge of motor, inverter, and gearbox concepts.
• Knowledge of propulsion systems and thermal (coolant and refrigerant) systems.
• Knowledge of Electric Vehicle Safety.
• Ability to work in strenuous/awkward positions.
• Operate various scan tools, diagnostic equipment and common automotive test equipment.
• Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills to resolve powertrain issues.
• Team player with good communication across teams.
• Basic workshop etiquette and writing communication across teams.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain large dynamometers for vehicle and powertrain testing.
• Install instrumentation to collect data during testing (accelerometers, strain gauges, pressure gauges, etc.).
• Build and setup test rigs/dynos for mechanical and/or electrical tests with engineering teams.
• Perform routine mechanical and electrical maintenance.
• Contribute to Environmental Health & Safety with risk assessments and safe work practices.
• Support validation engineers with upgrades and modifications to test systems.
• Perform first-line fault finding on System Under Test.
• Diagnose and repair prototype vehicle electrical/mechanical/software systems.
• Support engineers to achieve test plans and equipment upgrade projects.
• Document findings and escalate issues early; create process docs for rigs and equipment.
• Propose updates to workshop standards, protocols, and processes.

This role will be focused on operating and maintaining dynamometertest systems for the development and validation testing of electrifiedpowertrain systems (drive units, gearboxes). The Dyno Technician willwork closely with Powertrain Test Engineers to install, configure andmaintain test properties across a variety of complex powertrain testequipment in order to execute and monitor testing to requirementsspecified by Powertrain Validation engineers. Supported by the rest ofthe engineering team, you will be responsible for performing first-linetroubleshooting of any operational issues encountered on test and takeownership of delivering high-quality test data to support high-levelTest & Validation plans for the products.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain large dynamometers (for vehicle and powertrain system level testing)
  
• Select and install instrumentation needed to collect response datafrom the product during testing (accelerometers, strain gauges, pressuregauges, thermocouples, thermistors, hygrometers, voltage drop senseleads, etc.)
  
• Build and setup test rigs/dynos for mechanical and/or electricaltests together with Powertrain, NVH, and Thermal engineering teams
  
• Perform routine maintenance to complex mechanical and electrical repairs.
  
• Take an active part in Environmental Heath & Safety within thelaboratory environment, contributing to Risk Assessments and ensuring asafe work environment
  
• Support Validation Engineers to perform upgrades and modifications to Systems Under Test
  
• Perform the first line of fault finding for operational issues which arise on System Under Test
  
• Perform diagnosis and repair of prototype vehicle’s electrical/mechanical/software systems
  
• Support Test Engineers to achieve test plans and test equipment upgrade projects
  
• Document and communicate findings through processes and systems, taking ownership of early escalation where appropriate
  
• Generate and take ownership of process documentation for test rigs and associated test equipment
  
• Provide feedback, create and implement processes and suggestions tonew and/or improved workshop standards, protocols, and processes.
