Job summary

Pye-Barker Fire & Safety is seeking a Test & Inspect Technician to independently perform inspection, testing and basic troubleshooting of fire alarm and sprinkler systems, and portable equipment in diverse commercial environments. This role can complete standard jobs without direct supervision while ensuring compliance with NFPA codes and local standards.

You will document results, interpret drawings, maintain gear, and travel to job sites as required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of experience in the fire alarm, fire sprinkler, and life safety industry as a technician.
  • CSA / Denver Journeyman License required.
  • Backflow Certification ASSE preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently perform inspections and testing.
  • Working knowledge of NFPA 72 and applicable codes.
  • NICET Level I or above preferred.
  • Independently capable in core technical functions.
  • Able to complete standard jobs without direct supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Independently perform fire alarm inspections and testing per NFPA standards.
  • Independently perform fire sprinkler inspections and testing per NFPA standards.
  • Conduct device activation and system checks for fire alarms.
  • Document inspection and testing results accurately.
  • Identify deficiencies and perform basic troubleshooting and minor repairs.
  • Communicate findings with customers and teams.
  • Interpret system drawings and technical documents.
  • Maintain tools and inventory.
  • Ensure safety policy compliance.
  • Travel to job sites as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The Test & Inspect Technician is responsible for independently performing inspection, testing, and basic troubleshooting of fire alarm systems, fire sprinkler systems, and portables. This position can complete standard jobs without direct supervision and ensures compliance with all applicable codes and standards.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Independently perform fire alarm inspections and testing per NFPA standards and local codes.
  • Independently perform fire sprinkler inspections and testing per NFPA standards and local codes.
  • Conduct device activation, system functionality checks, and fire alarm verification.
  • Accurately document inspection and testing results.
  • Identify deficiencies and perform basic troubleshooting and minor repairs.
  • Communicate findings with customers and internal teams.
  • Interpret system drawings, layouts, and technical documents.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and inventory.
  • Ensure compliance with safety policies and procedures.
  • Travel to job sites as required.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting and climbing ladders.
  • Work performed in commercial, industrial, and construction environments.
  • Exposure to varying conditions including heights, confined spaces, and active job sites.
  • Use of hand tools and testing equipment under supervision.
  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds.
Compensation
  • $34.00 - $40.00 hourly DOE
