Job description

Our client is a global technology company with a mission centered on public safety and enterprise security. They design and connect communications systems, software platforms, and hardware solutions used by first responders, government agencies, and commercial organizations around the world. With a decades-long track record of innovation and a broad international footprint, they are a recognized leader in their industry and continue to invest heavily in next-generation technology.

About the Role

Our client is opening a brand-new electronics manufacturing facility in the Salt Lake City area, and we're hiring one of the first Manufacturing Test Engineers to join it on the ground floor. As a Manufacturing Test Engineer, you'll own the automated test system infrastructure on the factory floor, serving as the critical bridge between headquarters engineering and local production. You'll be responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and optimizing test stations and logging and analysis tools to ensure full feature coverage and reliable performance.

Responsibilities
  • Design and implement comprehensive test plans covering wireless communication system feature sets.
  • Design and implement logging and log analysis tools that capture performance of both the systems under test and the test infrastructure itself.
  • Own production test station design, implementation, maintenance, repair, and upgrade, driving continuous improvement of manufacturing test efficiency.
  • Collaborate with RF and systems engineering teams to understand performance requirements and establish production tests and thresholds.
  • Partner with engineering and quality teams to validate new testing approaches for rollout to production.
  • Work closely with the software development team to augment production test systems in support of new features and product configurations.
  • Perform advanced failure analysis and root cause determination for production issues escalated beyond standard troubleshooting, with a focus on design-related causes.
  • Document test procedures, system configurations, and analysis findings for production and engineering teams.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field
  • Minimum of 2 years of test engineering experience in an electronics manufacturing environment.
  • Experience operating in an electronics manufacturing facility with strict adherence to ISO 9001 processes.
  • Strong foundational software development skills in Python, C/C++, or related languages.
  • Experience developing for Windows, Linux, macOS, Android, or bare metal environments.
  • Demonstrated experience in wireless/networking or electronics manufacturing.
  • Proficiency with RF instruments such as signal generators and spectrum analyzers.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. without current or future sponsorship, due to government contract requirements.
  • Ability to work 100% on-site.
  • Willingness to travel extensively to a headquarters location for training during the initial onboarding of the role (Monday through Friday on-site, home on weekends, company-paid travel and lodging). Travel drops to under 10% afterward.
Preferred Skills
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and CI/CD practices in an electronics manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience developing software for automated test equipment (ATE).
  • Skilled with containerization and deployment tools like Docker or Nginx.
  • Acquainted with mesh networking.
  • Strong data analysis, reporting, and presentation skills.
