Job summary

L&T Technology Services seeks a Testing Engineer to advance hardware-in-the-loop validation for power electronics. The role emphasizes hands-on HIL testing of converters, inverters, and UPS systems, using MATLAB/Simulink, Stateflow, and OPAL-RT in real-time environments.

You will design, implement and optimize HIL test setups, validate control algorithms, and collaborate with hardware, firmware, and systems teams to ensure robust, validated solutions for demanding electrical power applications.

Qualifications

Job description

We are seeking a Testing Engineer with strong hands‑on experience in Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing and validation of power electronic systems. This is not a software testing position.

The ideal candidate will have experience with power converters, inverters, UPS systems, MATLAB/Simulink, Stateflow, real-time simulation, and embedded controller validation. Experience with OPAL-RT is highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and execute HIL testing and validation for power converters, inverters, UPS systems, and other power electronic systems.
• Configure and maintain OPAL-RT real-time HIL test environments.
• Develop and maintain real-time simulation models for power circuits and interface circuits using MATLAB/Simulink and Stateflow.
• Develop and validate power converter control algorithms and state-machine implementations.
• Design and develop breakout/interface boards for integrating power converter controllers with HIL platforms.
• Perform controller-to-HIL interfacing, signal mapping, pin mapping, wiring validation, and I/O configuration.
• Configure and validate analog, digital, PWM, and communication interfaces between controllers and HIL systems.
• Execute Design Verification Testing (DVT) according to approved test plans and requirements.
• Support controller algorithm verification, fault injection, and system-level validation.
• Debug and troubleshoot hardware-software integration issues in real‑time simulation environments.
• Analyze test results, identify failures and root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
• Generate detailed test procedures, validation reports, and technical documentation.
• Collaborate with Controls, Firmware, Embedded, Electrical, Hardware, and Systems Engineering teams to resolve technical issues.
• Support firmware validation and embedded controller testing within HIL environments.
• Improve HIL models, test setups, validation methodologies, and test infrastructure.

Required Qualifications

• Hands‑on experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing and validation of power converters.
• Strong experience with MATLAB/Simulink and Stateflow model development.
• Strong understanding of power electronics and power conversion systems.
• Experience with one or more of the following:
• UPS systems
• Data center power supplies
• Industrial power systems
• EV power electronics
• Strong knowledge of power converter control algorithms and state‑machine implementation.
• Experience with controller-to-HIL interfacing, signal mapping, and I/O configuration.
• Experience with real‑time simulation and model‑based design.
• Understanding of control systems and embedded controllers.
• Exposure to firmware validation and embedded system testing.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively with cross‑functional engineering teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Hands‑on experience with OPAL-RT or similar HIL platforms.
• Experience with power converter controller validation.
• Experience with fault injection and protection-function testing.
• Experience in UPS, inverter, data center power, EV, or industrial power conversion applications.
• Experience working with embedded firmware and real‑time control systems.
