Overview

We are seeking a Test Engineer to support the testing, troubleshooting, and successful release of highly complex electro-mechanical manufacturing equipment. This position works closely with Manufacturing, Product Engineering, Software Engineering, technicians, and other technical teams to resolve equipment issues and ensure systems successfully complete functional and production testing. This is a highly hands-on engineering role for someone who enjoys troubleshooting complex equipment involving electrical, mechanical, software, motion-control, vacuum, and fluid-delivery systems. The Test Engineer will initially train on first shift for approximately one to two months to develop product and system knowledge before transitioning to the permanent second-shift schedule.

Responsibilities
  • Support testing and troubleshooting of multiple complex manufacturing tools simultaneously.
  • Review customer specifications and equipment configurations and communicate technical gaps to the appropriate engineering and manufacturing teams.
  • Develop test definitions and functional requirements for new products and assist with testing new product designs and procedures.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, plumbing/fluid, motion-control, vacuum, hardware, and software-related equipment issues.
  • Perform electro-mechanical failure analysis and provide findings and feedback to Design Engineering.
  • Analyze software logs and troubleshoot hardware/software interactions in collaboration with Software Engineering.
  • Support equipment power-up, voltage checks, mechanical and robotic handler setup, software verification, and functional testing.
  • Support extended equipment testing, including marathon wafer-cycle testing that may run continuously for extended periods.
  • Identify and respond to equipment failures including mechanical crashes, software configuration issues, fluid-line problems, and system misalignment.
  • Support Manufacturing and contract manufacturing partners during new product introduction and the transition of new products into operations.
  • Train technicians and new employees on equipment platforms and testing procedures.
  • Drive continuous improvement of equipment testing methods and documented procedures.
  • Update quality audit documentation, testing procedures, system acceptance logs, and technical knowledge resources.
  • Perform disposition activities for non-conforming products identified during quality audits.
  • Assist Technical Product Support with troubleshooting installation issues when required.
  • Support occasional field escalations when necessary.
  • Maintain detailed written handoff documentation to ensure effective communication between engineering shifts.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field with at least 5 years of experience working with and troubleshooting complex electro-mechanical systems in an OEM environment; or a Master's degree with at least 3 years of related experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
  • Strong troubleshooting capability across complex electro-mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, software, hardware, motion-control, vacuum, and fluid-delivery systems.
  • Ability to understand overall equipment architecture and identify failures at the system or module level.
  • Ability to read and interpret highly technical documentation including electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, assembly drawings, bills of material, routings, and operating, maintenance, and safety procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary engineering and manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple equipment systems and competing technical priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to document troubleshooting activity and provide detailed engineering handoffs between shifts.
  • Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with technicians, engineers, customers, peers, and management.
  • Proficiency with computers and software applications used for equipment testing, troubleshooting, information gathering, and technical documentation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with semiconductor capital equipment is preferred.
  • Engineering experience working with electronic and mechanical devices is desirable.
  • Experience with SolidWorks or similar CAD software is desirable.
Schedule & Training
  • Permanent second-shift schedule of 3:30 PM - 12:00 AM.
  • New hires are expected to begin on first shift for approximately one to two months for product and technical training before transitioning to second shift.
  • The position is nearly 100% on-site with minimal travel expected.

This position offers significant technical visibility and the opportunity to become a key engineering resource supporting second-shift manufacturing operations. As product knowledge and technical proficiency develop, there is potential for progression into Senior Test Engineer responsibilities involving increased technician training, mentoring, technical leadership, and broader ownership of equipment testing.
