Job summary

Del Mar College is seeking a TERM INSTRUCTOR - WELDING to teach five courses per regular semester, including online or dual-credit offerings. The instructor will cover welding processes with emphasis on GTAW, read blueprints, and fabricate structures and pipes.

The role requires strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to adapt teaching styles for diverse learners and maintain professional relationships with students and colleagues.

Qualifications

  • Associate in Applied Science in Welding Applied Technology and five (5) years of documented work experience in the Welding field.
  • Five (5) years of welding experience in GTAW / SMAW Pipe and Plate; five (5) years in GMAW / FCAW Pipe and Plate.
  • Eight (8) or more years of welding experience accepted as alternative.
  • Knowledge of blueprints, layout, and fabrication of structural and pipe.
  • Ability to plan instruction based on approved syllabus/outline.
  • Proficiency with computers and online teaching tools available.

Job Description Summary

Teach five (5) courses per regular semester that could include online courses and/or dual-credit/early college classes.

Demonstrate skill, knowledge, and abilities in the teaching discipline of all welding processes with a strong emphasis on Gas Tungsten Arc Welding ( GTAW ). Must have knowledge of Blue Prints and Layout and fabrication of Structural and Pipe. Teach assigned courses in a variety of times and locations in response to institutional need. Make continuous efforts to advance the quality of instruction. Develop and use a variety of teaching methods and materials to assist students who have differing educational and experiential backgrounds in meeting the course outcomes. Maintain appropriate professional relationships with students, colleagues and the community.

Required Job Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

A minimum of five years welding experience in multi-groove welds in the following process SMAW , GTAW , GMAW and FCAW .

Strong organizational and communication skills necessary to be an effective teacher and the aptitudes to assist new and returning students achieve their educational goals and objectives

Ability to plan course instruction based upon approved syllabus/outline provided to insure course content and objectives are met.

Ability to utilize a variety of teaching styles and methods to accommodate diverse learning styles of students.

Valid/current credentials

Minimum Qualifications

Associate in Applied Science in Welding Applied Technology AND five (5) years of documented work experience in the Welding field.

As well as five (5) years of welding experience in the GTAW / SMAW Pipe and Plate process and five (5) years of welding experience in the GMAW / FCAW Pipe and Plate process.

Eight (8) or more years of documented work experience in the Welding field.

As well as five (5) years of welding experience in the GTAW / SMAW Pipe and Plate process and five (5) years of welding experience in the GMAW / FCAW Pipe and Plate process.

Preferred Qualifications

Three (3) years of Pipe/Vessel Fabrication welding experience.

Successful college teaching experience utilizing instructional technologies, including computers, internet resources and other appropriate media in instruction.

Experience teaching college level online courses and/or documented successful training in a college online learning management system (e.g. Blackboard, Canvas).

Evaluate students to measure their progress toward achievement of stated course outcomes within the College grade and grade appeals procedures. Review, evaluate, recommend, and effectively use student learning materials.

Provide students with a written and accessible course syllabus that follows the Course Syllabus Guidelines and facilitates a clear understanding between student and instructor of the content, goals, requirements, expectations, evaluation methods and schedule of work. Maintain a classroom environment that promotes teaching and learning. Hold scheduled, posted virtual or physical office hours of at least one (1) hour daily and be available for and encourage conferences with students so there is a clearer understanding of the students’ work and the possibility of improvement. Assist in academic advising of declared majors. Assist with marketing programs and recruiting students.

Job Duty

Review, evaluate, and revise assessments of program and institutional student learning outcomes and program practices to bring about action plans devised to implement systemic improvement in programs and assure compliance with professional standards, state-mandated guidelines, and requirements of business/industry and higher education.

Participate in the self- evaluation process. Establish goals and objectives which may include personal and professional development plans in consultation with the department chair. Maintain professional standards of competence in the discipline and teaching methodology through professional development/engagement activities.

Serve on committees. Accept special assignments occasionally. Participate in scheduled institutional activities which include convocation and graduation ceremonies. Participate in department, divisional, and College meetings. Participate in College-related activities such as registration and selection of faculty. Participate in activities required to maintain program and College accreditation standards. Participate in the College planning process by assisting in the formulation of goals and objectives and budget priorities. Meet professional assignments in accordance with the College calendar. Participate in business and/or community activities that promote the mission of the College.
