This is a CONTINUOUS recruitment for an applicant POOL to fill temporary TERM Assistant Instructor assignments on an as-needed basis. Departments or Divisions will refer to the POOL of applications on file to fill temporary assignments as the need arises. Job Description Summary
Supervise and manage the Reading Lab.
Work 40 hours per week and/or work in lab and carry a 40% teaching load. Assist in development maintenance of operational budget.
Work with students of diverse backgrounds.
Maintain regular office hours.
Evaluate students and assign grades.
Engage in assessment of student learning.
Summer assignment will depend on budget and instructional needs.
Required Job Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Knowledge of reading and writing workshop learning environments. Knowledge of content area reading and writing strategies. Ability to establish rapport with students and motivate student learning. Knowledge of current technology in instructional settings. Excellent human relations and communication skills. Knowledge of developmental education state standards. Excellent communication skills. Evidence of harmonious working relationship with colleagues.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Reading or related field. Teaching and one-to-one tutoring experience with traditional students. Experience with Microsoft Office applications and their use as instructional tools in the classroom. Experience with audio/visual technological equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree with 18 graduate hours in English or Reading.
Full-time teaching experience in high school or post secondary reading. Experience with learning management systems (e.g. Blackboard, Canvas). Expertise in current and innovative and instructional methodologies including experiential, collaborative and cooperative learning.
