This is a CONTINUOUS recruitment for an applicant POOL to fill temporary TERM Assistant Instructor assignments on an as-needed basis. Departments or Divisions will refer to the POOL of applications on file to fill temporary assignments as the need arises. You will be contacted by the hiring manager should the department/division be interested in scheduling an interview. Job Description Summary
The purpose of this position is to oversee the Math Learning Center ( MLC ). The successful applicant will tutor/teach various math-related subjects as well as perform administrative duties.
This position is full-time, requiring 40 hours per week, working nights and weekends and travel to multiple campuses.
Required Job Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong mathematical skills and logical reasoning.
Knowledge of math classes including College Algebra, Statistics, Trigonometry, Calculus, and Differential Equations.
Ability to effectively articulate and tutor mathematical concepts.
Ability to work with students from different cultural backgrounds, and various academic levels and needs
Ability to assist in a variety of teaching styles and methods
Ability to incorporate technology into tutoring
Expand and offer the Math Learning Center services to all DMC campuses
Ability to work at (travel to) multiple Del Mar campuses
Assist with designing active learning spaces
Ability to work SPECIAL WORKING HOURS and/or DAYS : Will require nights and weekends.
Ability to communicate and coordinate with other college departments for special events and promotional activities.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics or a related field ***AND*** a minimum of 21 college credit hours in Mathematics.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s in mathematics or a related field
Math tutoring experience in a college environment
Tutoring experience in Statistics, Physics, and Chemistry
Experience teaching math/math related courses
Proficient with a variety of calculators and math software such as MyMathLab
Knowledge of learning management systems (preferably Canvas)
Supervisor experience, including administering staff evaluations, scheduling, and conflict resolution
Proficient with data entry software, such as Accutrack and Excel
Experience with managing resources, checking inventory, and requesting supplies.
