Job summary

Marist University Education Department seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Special Education to begin Fall 2027 in Poughkeepsie, NY. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses, advise students, maintain an active research agenda, and collaborate with colleagues to recruit and retain future teachers.

Applicants must hold a doctorate by Fall 2027 with a specialization in mild to moderate disabilities and a demonstrated record of scholarship.

Qualifications

• We welcome candidates with a doctorate in Education, Special Education, or related field by Fall 2027.
• Specialization in mild to moderate disabilities (e.g., learning disabilities, ADHD, or related areas).
• Student-centered approach to guiding future teachers.
• Proven scholarship commensurate with tenure expectations of a teacher-scholar university.
• 3–5 years of teaching experience in pre-K–12 settings.
• Ability to model culturally responsive pedagogy across courses and foster inclusive classrooms.

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in teacher education aligned with expertise and curricular needs.
• Advise students on academic progress and NYS certification requirements.
• Maintain an active research agenda leading to publications and presentations.
• Collaborate with faculty to support student recruitment and retention.
• Participate in department and school meetings and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
