Job summary

Southwestern Community College District seeks a full-time, tenure-track EMT/Paramedic principal instructor to lead accredited EMT and paramedic programs. You will teach courses, mentor students, and collaborate with the Program Director to ensure alignment with accreditation and community needs.

The ideal candidate has recent field paramedic experience or Mobile Intensive Care Nurse work in California, teaching in accredited EMS programs, and instructor certifications (CPR, PALS, ACLS, PHTLS).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree and two years of experience in an allied health field, AND CA certification/licensure as Physician, RN, PA, or Paramedic, AND forty hours of teaching methodology, AND two years of academic or clinical EMS/prehospital care experience in the last five years.
  • Or any Associates Degree and six years of allied health field experience AND CA certification/licensure as Physician, RN, PA, or Paramedic AND forty hours of teaching methodology AND two years of EMS/prehospital care experience in the last five years.
  • Additional assessment may be required for foreign degrees; coursework evaluated by a NACES member association must be submitted with the application.

Responsibilities

  • Teach EMT courses and related classes under the Program Director of EMT/Paramedic.
  • Teach in EMT and/or paramedic programs based on departmental needs.
  • Demonstrate prehospital care provider experience and mentoring ability.
  • Form community partnerships to support program accreditation and outcomes.
  • Understand EMS and fire service dynamics to align with program goals.
