Job summary

Gustavus Adolphus College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Theatre and Dance to begin August 15, 2027. The position includes a six-course load, with a first-year reduced assignment and a fully compensated extra course release, plus directing one main stage production each semester.

Responsibilities include teaching Acting and Performance levels 1–3, World Theatre Analysis, Directing 1, advising and mentoring undergraduates, and contributing to general education.

Qualifications

• Terminal degree (MFA or PhD) in Acting, Directing, or related theatre discipline; degree by Sept 30, 2027.
• Evidence of a body of work as a professional actor and/or director.
• Evidence of teaching experience.
• Commitment to advising and mentoring undergraduate students.

Responsibilities

• Teach a six-course-equivalent load each academic year; first year reduced teaching load with one fully-compensated course release.
• Direct one main stage production each semester.
• Mentor students in performance and professional development; advise within degree plans.
• Contribute to creating a welcoming community where everyone belongs.
• Participate in teaching circles, workshops, and internal grants to develop teaching.
• Advance scholarship with undergraduate research, travel funds for conferences, and external grants.
