The Customized Training Instructor - Data Center Technician is responsible for delivering high-quality technical instruction to individuals preparing for employment or advancement within the data center industry. The instructor will support C-TEC's Customized Workforce Solutions initiatives by providing employer-driven training designed to develop the technical knowledge, hands-on skills, safety practices, and troubleshooting abilities required of Data Center Technicians.

The position will initially focus on supporting a Data Center Technician training program developed in partnership with an area data center employer. The instructor will work closely with C-TEC leadership, employer partners, and other instructors to ensure training remains aligned with current industry standards, technologies, and workforce needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Data Center Technician Instructor will:

• Deliver classroom, laboratory, and hands-on technical instruction for Data Center Technician training programs.
• Provide instruction in areas including electrical systems, mechanical systems, HVAC and cooling systems, power distribution, backup power systems, controls, safety, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and other data center technologies.
• Teach foundational concepts related to data center infrastructure, including UPS systems, generators, switchgear, transformers, PDUs, cooling equipment, pumps, motors, controls, and building management systems.
• Reinforce electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills using industry-standard tools, meters, trainers, and equipment.
• Provide instruction in workplace safety, including electrical safety, lockout/tagout, PPE, hazard recognition, and other applicable OSHA and industry practices.
• Develop and maintain lesson plans, instructional materials, laboratory activities, assessments, and hands-on projects aligned with employer expectations.
• Evaluate participant knowledge and technical skill development through written assessments, demonstrations, laboratory exercises, and performance-based evaluations.
• Maintain accurate attendance, assessment, credential, and training records as required by C-TEC and employer partners.
• Prepare activities, equipment, materials, and instructional technology prior to training sessions.
• Maintain a safe, organized, and professional learning environment.
• Work directly with employer subject-matter experts to ensure curriculum reflects current equipment, procedures, terminology, and industry practices.
• Modify curriculum and instructional approaches based on employer feedback and changing workforce needs.
• Participate in instructor training, professional development, curriculum development, and equipment-specific training as required.
• Assist with the identification and implementation of industry-recognized certifications and credentials appropriate for Data Center Technician occupations.
• Provide coaching and support to participants with varying levels of previous technical experience.
• Reinforce employability skills including communication, teamwork, professionalism, documentation, problem-solving, and continuous improvement.
• Support additional customized training programs within the instructor's areas of technical expertise as scheduling permits.
• Perform other duties related to C-TEC's Customized Workforce Solutions programs as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates should possess:

• Previous industry experience in data centers, industrial maintenance, electrical systems, mechanical systems, HVAC, facilities maintenance, controls, advanced manufacturing, or a closely related technical field.
• Demonstrated knowledge of electrical and/or mechanical systems used in industrial or mission-critical facilities.
• Experience troubleshooting technical equipment and systems.
• OSHA, electrical safety, HVAC, mechanical, controls, or other related credentials.
• Strong understanding of workplace and electrical safety practices.
• Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to individuals with different levels of experience.
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively with employers, adult learners, instructors, and C-TEC staff.
• Ability and willingness to complete required instructor training and industry certifications.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference may be given to candidates with:

• Previous experience working in a data center or mission-critical facility.
• Experience with electrical distribution, UPS systems, generators, switchgear, HVAC/cooling systems, building automation, controls, or industrial maintenance.
• Experience teaching, training, mentoring, or supervising technicians.
• Relevant industry certifications or licenses.
• Experience developing technical curriculum, laboratory exercises, or performance-based assessments.
