Job summary

The Maplewood Club in Maplewood, NJ seeks an experienced Tennis Director in an independent contractor arrangement. This hands-on leader will oversee har-tru courts, teaching staff, programming and events while delivering high‑level instruction.

The role covers season-long operations April through October, plus youth camps, clinics, tournaments and pro shop activities. The Director will recruit and manage a team of pros, build an inclusive tennis community, and report to the Tennis Committee.

Qualifications

• Minimum five years in tennis program leadership.
• Strong coaching experience at a club or academy level.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work with adults and juniors.
• Experience running adult and junior programming, including clinics and camps.
• Har-tru court expertise and racquet stringing knowledge.
• Ability to recruit, retain and manage a team of assistant pros.

Responsibilities

• Har-tru court and facility oversight, maintenance coordination, and court condition updates.
• Plan and run tournaments and events, including leagues and social events.
• Coach and oversee club teams; manage schedules and lineups.
• Deliver private and group lessons; run clinics for members.
• Operate youth summer camp per NJ health and safety rules; manage staffing and insurance.
• Oversee pro shop operations, inventory, pricing and stringing services.
• Communicate schedules, rates and programs; publish updates on website and social channels.
