Job summary

The Anchorage Library is seeking a youth services professional to plan, present, and evaluate programs for youth age birth to 18 at the 120 Bragaw Street location. Responsibilities include assisting patrons with library resources and building community partnerships.

Required is a Master's in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program (or a related Bachelor's with 3 years’ experience) and a satisfactory background check. Temporary hours apply, with some evenings/weekends.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in library science from an ALA-accredited school.
• OR Bachelor's degree in a related discipline with 3 years of professional experience.
• Satisfactory background check including criminal, education, and employment history at time of hire.
• Satisfactory completion of a national criminal background investigation at time of hire.

Responsibilities

• Plan, present, and evaluate programs for youth, birth to age 18.
• Evaluate youth materials to maintain a diverse and relevant collection.
• Assist patrons in finding and using library resources.
• Instruct patrons on resources including downloadable/ streaming services, databases, online catalog, print sources and computer/internet use.
• Provide outreach to and develop partnerships with the community and the Anchorage School District.
• Stay current on trends and best practices in youth library services.
• Oversee branch operations in the Branch Manager's absence.
• Establish and maintain relations with co‑workers, the public and vendors; foster trust and a collaborative environment.

Education

Master's degree in library science from an American Library Association accredited school

Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline
