Job summary

City of Abilene seeks a Youth Services Librarian to oversee programming and services for children from birth to 18 years old, delivering age-appropriate literacy and learning activities inside and outside the library.

The role requires initiative, tact, and courtesy, with duties including program planning, reader’s advisory, collection maintenance for juvenile materials, reporting, and outreach collaborations with schools and community partners. Some travel and evening/weekend work are required.

Qualifications

• MLS or MLIS from an ALA-accredited program.
• Experience with youth programming and literature is preferred.
• Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate programs for children and teens.

Responsibilities

• Develop and conduct programs for ages birth–18.
• Coordinate activities inside and outside the library.
• Maintain and promote the youth collection and reader’s advisory services.
• Prepare reports and collect statistics for management.
