Alameda County Community Food Bank is seeking a Temporary Volunteer Engagement Assistant to support the Volunteer Engagement team during the busy season. You will manage volunteer registrations, coordinate shifts in Salesforce, answer inquiries, and assist with on-site tasks to ensure a positive volunteer experience.

This full-time temporary role reports to the Director of Community Engagement & Marketing and involves standing up shifts, communicating with volunteers, and supporting warehouse

  • Support various administrative tasks related to volunteer engagement efforts.
  • Assist prospective volunteers and volunteer group coordinators in registering for shifts.
  • Support shift changes and assignments in Salesforce.
  • Assist Volunteers with the Check in and Orientation Process, including educating volunteers about ACCFB or tasks to be performed.
  • Occasionally provide warehouse floor support and direct volunteer work in times of high need.
  • Assists with setup and cleanup of work projects.
  • Participates in/assists with physical tasks, including lifting boxes, moving pallets, etc.
  • Recognizes and encourages volunteers by expressing gratitude for service provided; gathers and consolidates feedback about volunteer experience.

As a member of the Volunteer Engagement staff within the Development Division, the Temporary Volunteer Engagement Assistant will support the Food Bank’s efforts throughout the holiday season (~Sept through Dec./early January) to provide a meaningful experience to large numbers of volunteers, ensure communication with volunteers are timely, and help broaden community engagement opportunities. Reporting to the Director of Community Engagement & Marketing with oversite by the volunteer coordinators, this role works within the Volunteer Team to maintain a punctual and organized volunteer experience for all those who wish to serve.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Reliable and dependable workplace performance. Must be an excellent team player.
  • Previous experience providing excellent customer service and maintaining a calm, friendly and tactful demeanor during high volume periods via phone calls, written correspondence, and in-person interactions.
  • Strong organizational capabilities and attention to detail are essential.
  • Effective communication with staff and community is essential.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments to meet deadlines.
  • Must have intermediate working proficiency in MS Office Suite and experience with Salesforce.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously to meet deadlines.
  • Basic mathematical skills for accurate record keeping.
Preferred Qualifications:

1-2 years’ experience in a nonprofit environment or in an administrative or event support role.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position is located in a shared office environment. Currently, this position works every day onsite at 7900 Edgewater Drive. Physical activities necessary in the performance of this job include: sitting for prolonged periods, mobility to move throughout the food bank in performance of duties, event set-up and break down, ability to read and write in English, ability to use a computer to accomplish the duties of the position, including typing and seeing, ability to lift up to 35 pounds for loading and transporting needed items for offsite events. Involves the need for a flexible schedule for occasional weekend events.

UNION REPRESENTATION:

ACCFB is in partnership with and has an established labor union for a portion of our staff. This position is NOT part of the labor union OPEIU, Local 29.

COMPENSATION:

This is a full-time, temporary, non-exempt position, working Monday through Friday, 7:30 to 3:30 PM. The hourly wage is $31.54 per hour.
