Job summary

James McGee Elementary in Pasco, WA seeks a Temporary Instructional Paraeducator for the Resource Room to support students with individualized instruction and behavior plans. This 3-hour-per-day position runs on a 180-day calendar for the 2026/2027 school year.

Starting date to be determined; salary range $22.03–$24.83 per hour, with degree-based premium pay. Fingerprint screening required for new hires; bilingual ability (Spanish) preferred to assist diverse learners.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
• Bilingual and/or Biliterate (Spanish), preferred but not required.
• Associates degree (AAS, AA) or 72 college quarter credits or 48 semester credits in college level 100+ courses; or passing score on the paraeducator assessment.
• Prior paraeducator experience, college, or on-the-job experience preferred but not required.
• CPI trained or willing to attend training.
• First aid and/or CPR for infants/children or willing to obtain.
• Experience in a K-12 school setting preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Use trauma-informed strategies to build safe, supportive relationships and respond to student needs with empathy.
• Accurately collect and document data related to academic progress, behavior, and IEP goals; communicate with supervising teacher.
• Follow behavior intervention plans and CPI de-escalation strategies to maintain a safe learning environment.
• Assist in delivering teacher-directed instruction and reinforcement in academic, behavioral, and social-emotional areas.
• Provide first aid and emergency care as needed.
• Offer one-on-one or small group instruction and adapt support to student needs.
• Assist teacher and administrators with classroom management and lesson preparation.
• Supervise students during various activities and assist with transitions and bus/loading.
• Report misconduct and help with safety procedures and district policies.
• Attend required training hours for paraeducator certification.
• Record student progress and maintain records in school information systems.
• Translate information for students, staff and guardians (bilingual).
• Assist with diapering, toileting, feeding, and lifting as needed per collective bargaining agreement.

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent

Bilingual and/or Biliterate (Spanish)

Paraeducator assessment passing score

Prior paraeducator experience

CP I trained or willing to attend
