Job summary

Rochester Public Schools is seeking a paraprofessional to support students with special education needs at the school site under certified staff. The role includes instructional support, behavior management, health support, data collection, and communicating academic and behavioral progress to teachers.

Qualifications include 60 college credits and/or a two-year degree or completion of Paraeducator Assessments; a high school diploma or GED; experience with elementary students; computer skills;

Qualifications

• 60 college credits and/or a two-year degree from an accredited college or university.
• Paraeducator Assessments available if no degree.
• High School diploma or GED required.
• Experience working with elementary age students.
• Computer skills preferred.
• Flexibility and the ability to work as a cooperative team member.
• Regular, on-time attendance is required.

Responsibilities

• Follow student Behavior Intervention Plans and Emergency Healthcare Plans.
• Provide support to students with personal cares as needed.
• Ability to work with students with different disabilities.
• Observe and document students' academic and social behaviors.
• Data collection of student progress on goals and objectives.
• Provide feedback on student progress to teachers and related staff.
• Knowledge of iPads and devices for non-verbal communication.
• Support students with de-escalation techniques and restrictive procedures as needed.
• Supervise students before, during, and after school hours.
• Move to meet students at their level.
• Support during meals, recess, and field trips.
• May monitor lunchroom or playground in all weather.
• Model appropriate language and social behavior.
• Build strong relationships with children from diverse backgrounds.
• Maintain confidentiality.
• Effective communication with staff.
• Good organizational skills.
• Regular attendance is required.

Education

60 college credits or 2-year degree

Paraeducator Assessments

High School diploma or GED

Experience with elementary students

Computer skills preferred
