Job summary

Computational Physics Inc is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant for a short-term GovCon engagement in North Springfield, VA. You will work directly with the Controller to close books and prepare for year-end review, operating with independence from day one.

The role focuses on deep GL review, reconciliations, ESOP data preparation, and ICS/ICE submissions, with up to 40 hours/week and flexible scheduling.

Qualifications

• Significant senior-level accounting experience with a government contractor.
• Experience preparing Incurred Cost Submissions (ICS/ICE) and knowledge of indirect rate structures.
• Strong command of FAR Part 31 and DCAA expectations.
• Proven year-end close, GL reconciliation, and schedule-building skills.
• Advanced Excel and the ability to build clean, review-ready workpapers.
• Self-directed; comfortable walking into messy books and bringing order without hand-holding.

About the role

We're a government contractor closing out the year and need an experienced senior accountant to help get our books review-ready (year-end review, not an audit) and to support key GovCon deliverables. This is a short-term, high-intensity engagement. You'll work directly with our Controller and dive straight into the work - this role is for someone who can operate independently from day one. We are not able to train for this position. Position is temporary through the end of the year. Up to 40hrs/week, but flexible.

What you'll do

• Perform a deep review of all GL accounts; identify and resolve issues to get the books in shape for a year-end review
• Build and maintain supporting schedules for the review, including reconciliations and account roll-forwards
• Support the annual ESOP share valuation by compiling and preparing the information package sent to our third-party valuation firm (historical financials, schedules, and supporting data the appraiser requests)
• Assist in preparing the Incurred Cost Submission (ICS/ICE), including supporting schedules and reconciliation to the financial statements

What you need to succeed

• Significant senior-level accounting experience with a government contractor (this is not an entry point into GovCon - deep, hands-on experience required)
• Demonstrated experience preparing Incurred Cost Submissions (ICE model schedules) and working knowledge of indirect rate structures (fringe, overhead, G&A)
• Strong command of FAR Part 31 (allowable/unallowable costs) and DCAA expectations
• Proven year-end close, GL reconciliation, and schedule-building skills
• Advanced Excel and the ability to build clean, review-ready workpapers
• Self-directed; comfortable walking into messy books and bringing order without hand-holding

Strongly preferred

• Hands-on experience with Unanet (our ERP) - we want someone who can literally hit the ground running
• Experience supporting an ESOP company's annual valuation and/or familiarity with ESOP accounting
• CPA or equivalent senior credential
