Responsibilities

  • Mow, trim, edge, and maintain fields and grounds for safe, attractive surfaces.
  • Perform routine turf maintenance including seeding, fertilizing, and irrigation as needed.
  • Prepare fields for practices and events, including lining and equipment setup.
  • Maintain infield dirt, warning tracks, mounds, and playing surfaces.
  • Remove leaves and hazards, prune shrubs, and trim to ensure safe access.
  • Install and maintain windscreens, nets, padding, benches, and equipment.
  • Inspect facilities and report safety concerns to the Director of Athletics.
  • Perform minor repairs to fencing, bleachers, nets, and irrigation components.
  • Assist with setup, breakdown, and logistics of home contests and events.
  • Operate groundskeeping equipment according to safety procedures.
  • Keep inventory and request replenishment or repairs as needed.
  • Assist with maintenance of Papiano Gymnasium court and related facilities.
  • Perform other duties to support Athletics Department and College operations.

  • The Part-Time Athletic Facilities & Grounds Worker will report directly to the Director of Athletics and will perform work necessary to maintain the campus athletic fields and the Papiano Gymnasium basketball court.

Job Description


  • Mow, trim, edge, and maintain athletic fields and surrounding grounds to ensure safe and aesthetically pleasing playing surfaces.

  • Perform routine turf maintenance, including seeding, fertilizing, aerating, watering, and field repair as needed.

  • Prepare athletic fields for practices, competitions, and special events, including lining fields and setting up athletic equipment.

  • Maintain infield dirt areas, warning tracks, pitching mounds, batter’s boxes, and other sport-specific playing surfaces.

  • Remove leaves, debris, litter, and other hazards from athletic facilities and surrounding areas.

  • Prune shrubs and trim low-hanging branches to maintain safe access and visibility around athletic facilities.

  • Install, remove, and maintain windscreens, nets, padding, benches, goals, and other athletic equipment.

  • Inspect athletic facilities and grounds for safety concerns and report maintenance needs or hazards to the Director of Athletics.

  • Perform minor repairs to fencing, bleachers, nets, signage, irrigation components, and other athletic facility infrastructure.

  • Assist with the setup, breakdown, and logistical support of home athletic contests, tournaments, campus events, and special programs.

  • Operate and maintain groundskeeping equipment in accordance with established safety procedures.

  • Maintain inventory of field maintenance supplies and equipment and notify supervisors when replenishment or repair is needed.

  • Assist with basic maintenance and upkeep of the Papiano Gymnasium basketball court and related athletic facilities.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned in support of the Athletics Department and College operations.


Minimum Qualifications


  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • One (1) year of experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, athletic field maintenance, facilities maintenance, or a related field preferred.

  • Working knowledge of athletic field maintenance practices, turf management, landscaping techniques, and associated tools and equipment.

  • Ability to safely operate and perform basic maintenance on groundskeeping equipment, including mowers, trimmers, blowers, utility vehicles, field lining equipment, and hand tools.

  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as part of a team.

  • Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and the proper use of personal protective equipment ( PPE ).

  • Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends, as required to support athletic contests, events, and seasonal maintenance activities.

  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record required.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS


  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing, reaching, and repetitive motion throughout the workday.

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials, supplies, tools, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.

  • Ability to operate motorized groundskeeping equipment and hand tools safely and effectively.

  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, humidity, and direct sunlight.

  • Ability to work on uneven terrain, athletic fields, and landscaped areas.
