Job summary

TridentCare is seeking a Phlebotomist to collect blood samples at client facilities, primarily nursing homes. You will drive your own vehicle to sites and follow established phlebotomy procedures with strict patient identification before drawing blood.

You must label specimens correctly, maintain requisitions, and transport PHI securely. Responsibilities include scheduling draws, logging hours, and collaborating with dispatch, payroll, labs, and couriers while keeping equipment in good condition.

Qualifications

• Must hold current clinical licensure if required by state.
• Knowledge of medical terminology related to laboratory work.
• Proficient in phlebotomy procedures including venipuncture and site decontamination.
• Understanding of specimen preservation and proper labeling.
• Valid driver’s license and auto insurance required.
• Access to a vehicle in good condition for daily driving.
• Good driving record and ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Ability to maintain patient rights and PHI as required by policy.

Responsibilities

• Drive to client facilities (mostly nursing homes) using personal vehicle as directed.
• Follow phlebotomy procedures to obtain blood samples from patients.
• Identify patients per policy before drawing blood.
• Label specimens accurately and ensure requisitions include billing information.
• Transport PHI in accordance with policy.
• Plan draw schedules prioritizing patient needs.
• Complete logs and time sheets accurately and neatly.
• Coordinate with dispatch, payroll, laboratory and courier teams.
• Keep equipment in good working order and report issues promptly.
• Be available on-duty and respond to dispatch for future assignments.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Area Phlebotomy Supervisor.

Description

Pay range, based on experience: $23 - $25

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Employee will drive their personal vehicle (unless other accommodations are made) to client facilities (mostly nursing homes) as directed by company dispatcher or assigned Area Phlebotomy Supervisor/ Area Lead.
• Follows established phlebotomy procedures for obtaining blood samples from patients.
• Properly and accurately identify patients according toTridentCare phlebotomy patient identification policy prior to drawing.
• Ensures that specimens are properly labeled, in the proper tube and accompanied by a completed requisition, including patient billing information prior to transport.
• Follows TridentCare phlebotomy policy on transporting PHI.
• Plans, organizes draw schedule with attention to priority of patients.
• Completes written logs, time sheets and other required records in a neat and accurate manner.
• Works cooperatively with dispatch, payroll, laboratory and courier departments.
• Maintains all equipment in good working order and reports problem immediately to Area Phlebotomy Supervisor.
• When on-duty, answers company issued mobile device promptly and is ready and available to work.
• Notifies dispatch of availability for future assignment.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Area Phlebotomy Supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Must have current clinical Licensure, if required by State.
• Must possess knowledge of medical terminology as it relates to laboratory purposes.
• Proficient in phlebotomy procedures, techniques, including venipuncture, tourniquet application/removal and decontamination of the puncture site.
• Knowledge of required specimen preservation, adequate patient preparation and specimen procedures.
• Must have a current and valid Driver’s License and Auto Insurance.
• Must possess access to a vehicle in good working condition suitable to meet daily driving requirements.
• Must maintain a good driving record.
• Must be able to work under minimal supervision and accurately maintain time sheet records.
• Must understand and be knowledgeable of the resident rights, patient care and patient right to refuse.
• Ability to obtain blood specimens from patients under a variety of patient conditions.
• Proficient in written/verbal skills in the English Language.
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with clients, patients, public and all staff members.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
• Ability to take directions and conduct self in a professional manner.
