Position Description: Under the supervision of the Manager of Access Services, the Cornish Access Services Librarian, and the Lead Evening Technician, this position oversees library facilities and operations during weekend, morning, evening, and opening or closing shifts. Success in this patron-focused role requires strong organizational, communication, and attention-to-detail skills. The temporary staff member will staff the circulation desks at both libraries; lend materials, and help students use library collections and technology; perform Access Services functions of varying complexity; answer questions about Lemieux Library policies, procedures, services, and resources; and contribute to unit and library planning through meetings, training, workshops, and collaborative projects and initiatives. This role provides high-quality, user-centered service to students, faculty, staff, and community members. Essential Job Functions with Percentage of Work for Each Listed
  • 90% – Access Services Departmental Duties
    • Works closely with both Manager, Access Services, the Lead Evening Technician, and the Cornish Access Services Librarian, to ensure consistent frontline service at Lemieux Library on Friday and Saturdays as well as up to one weekday at the Cornish Library.
    • Securely opens and closes both Lemieux and Cornish Libraries in line with library policies, procedures, and protocols.
    • Works regular Circulation Desk shifts at both libraries, performing simple to complex Access Services functions, and ensuring that institutional and consortial materials are processed correctly.
    • Answers informational, directional, and service questions, utilizing equipment, and online tracking tools.
    • Assists patrons in navigating the library website and locating library materials online and in the building.
    • Makes appropriate referrals to other library and campus services as needed.
    • Contributes to student employee evaluations and any additional re-training and feedback.
    • Provides basic technology assistance and equipment problem solving on Fridays and Saturdays.
