Job summary

The New School in New York City is seeking a Temporary International Student Advisor to support the ISSS team. You will advise students on immigration rules and maintain student status, serving as a DSO and coordinating across platforms.

This in-person role may offer hybrid arrangements. The position offers an $28 per hour rate to support international students and compliance needs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Ability to work in groups and independently.
• Strong computer skills with Windows-based applications and Banner/Sunapsis/SEVIS.
• Excellent communication, organization, and customer service.
• US citizen or permanent resident to serve as DSO/ARO.
• Pass a required background check. Prior DSO/ARO experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the ISSS team to meet processing goals.
• Use Sunapsis, New School email, and virtual meetings to communicate requirements.
• Respond to student inquiries via the ISSS inbox.
• Stay updated on DHS, DOS guidance to ensure compliance.
• Participate in ISSS meetings.
• Other duties as assigned.

The Temporary International Student Advisor (ISA) for International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) is a position that will report to the Senior Advisor for International Students and Scholars in ISSS. The International Student Advisor is being hired to support the ISSS team in key areas of processing. The ISA will also be responsible for advising students in basic immigration regulations and maintenance of their student status.

CORE CAPABILITIES, PRIMARY DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Serve as Designated School Official (DSO).
• Process assigned requests from students using SEVIS, Sunapsis & Banner systems.
• Collaborate with the ISSS team to meet processing goals.
• Utilize Sunapsis, New School email, and virtual meetings to communicate with international students' requirements.
• Respond to student inquiries and requests through the ISSS general email inbox.
• Keep abreast of University, NAFSA, USCIS, DHS, and DOS guidance to ensure compliance.
• Participate in ISSS meetings.
• Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Ability to work in groups and independently.
• Strong computer skills with proficiency in Windows-based environments including Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, etc.), Google Drive, Banner, Sunapsis and/or SEVIS.
• Excellent communication, organization, & customer service skills.
• Punctual & resourceful with a positive attitude.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and be able to serve as a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Designated School Official (DSO) and a Department of State (DOS) Alternate Responsible Office (ARO).
• Ability to pass a required background check.
• Previous DSO and ARO experience.

WORK MODE

This position is primarily in-person and is based on campus to support effective in-person collaboration and engagement. Hybrid work arrangements may be considered on a case-case basis, depending on the nature of the role and operational needs. Any such arrangement must be discussed and approved in advance by the appropriate division lead or their designee.

HOURLY RATE

$28 per hour
