Job summary

Kaiser Permanente in Irvine, CA is seeking an Emergency Room Assistant for a temporary role of about three months. Under supervision, you will support RN staff, assist in treatment rooms, and help with patient care, documentation, and basic health education.

The position requires a Paramedic or EMT license in California, BLS, and at least six months of acute care or ED experience. Weekend shifts are required, and employees may be subject to background checks.

Qualifications

• Minimum six months experience in hospital acute care or emergency department as EMT/Paramedic.
• Current KP Coalition employees have this experience requirement waived.
• Valid California Paramedic or EMT license and BLS certification.

Responsibilities

• Complete documentation and serve as information source for patients.
• Adhere to nursing standards and promote teamwork among staff.
• Instruct patients on general health and self care.
• Explain physician orders to patients and obtain signatures when needed.
• Administer first aid and manage emergency procedures (CPR, Code Blues).
• Prepare and position patients, assess vitals, and assist in procedures.
• Set up exam rooms, restock supplies, and transport specimens as needed.
• Answer call lights and messages; direct patients to appropriate departments.
