Job summary

The Town of Burlington seeks a temporary, part-time Head Custodian to perform semi-skilled custodial work maintaining public buildings. This role requires attention to cleanliness, safety and reliable service to departments and the public.

Hours are Monday-Thursday 6:00am–10:00am and Friday 6:00am–9:30am (up to 19 hours/week). Pay: $30.56/hour. CORI screening is required for applicants selected for interview; condition of employment is a successful CORI check.

Qualifications

• Minimum high school diploma or equivalency with one year of custodial and maintenance experience.
• General knowledge of custodial materials and methods.
• Ability to perform moderately heavy manual labor.
• Customer service skills and ability to communicate successfully with coworkers and the public.

Responsibilities

• Perform general cleaning and maintenance tasks including trash, vacuuming, sweeping, dusting, and furniture care.
• Assist with modest rearranging of office furniture and light maintenance such as replacing bulbs and window cleaning.
• May perform minor grounds keeping activities.
• Maintain readiness of rooms for activities and secure buildings at close of day; report maintenance needs.

Job description

Responding to the Head Custodian, this temporary part time position performs s emi-skilled manual work involving the custodial care and maintenance of public buildings.

Essential functions include, but are not limited to :

• Perform general cleaning and maintenance tasks such as emptying trash containers, vacuuming rugs, sweeping floors and stairways, cleaning dusting and polishing furniture, assisting with modest re-arranging of office furniture as requested by departments, replacing light bulbs, window cleaning, keeping bathrooms clean and supplied.
• May perform minor grounds keeping activities.
• Maintain awareness of activities and meetings scheduled each evening and ensures that rooms are unlocked and ready for use, may unlock equipment closets and to help set up equipment if necessary.
• Perform building security by securing buildings at the close of the day, note and report maintenance needs and signs of damage to the Head Custodian.

Minimum qualifications include

• Minimum high school diploma or equivalency with one year of experience in building custodial and maintenance work or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• General knowledge of custodial materials and methods.
• Ability to perform moderately heavy manual labor.
• Customer service skills and ability to communicate successfully with coworkers and the public.

This is a non-union, temporary, part time position, up to 19 hours per week with possibility of becoming full time

Pay rate is $30.56/hour
