Job summary

The Town of Burlington, MA is hiring a temporary, part-time custodian to perform semi-skilled cleaning and maintenance in public buildings. The role reports to the Head Custodian and offers morning hours.

Pay is $30.56/hour for up to 19 hours per week, with potential to become full-time. CORI screening is required for final applicants; position will remain open until filled.

Qualifications

• Minimum high school diploma or equivalency with one year of experience in building custodial and maintenance work or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• General knowledge of custodial materials and methods.
• Ability to perform moderately heavy manual labor.
• Customer service skills and ability to communicate successfully with coworkers and the public.
• CORI background check required for final step in interview process; conditional offers contingent upon successful CORI check.

Responsibilities

• Perform general cleaning and maintenance tasks including emptying trash containers, vacuuming rugs, sweeping floors and stairways, cleaning, dusting and polishing furniture, assisting with modest rearranging of office furniture as requested by departments, replacing light bulbs, window cleaning, keeping bathrooms clean and supplied.
• May perform minor grounds keeping activities.
• Maintain awareness of activities and meetings scheduled each evening and ensure rooms are unlocked and ready for use; assist with setting up equipment as necessary.
• Perform building security by securing buildings at the close of the day, note and report maintenance needs and signs of damage to the Head Custodian.

Responding to the Head Custodian, this temporary part time position performs s emi-skilled manual work involving the custodial care and maintenance of public buildings.
Essential functions include, but are not limited to :

• Perform general cleaning and maintenance tasks such as emptying trash containers, vacuuming rugs, sweeping floors and stairways, cleaning dusting and polishing furniture, assisting with modest re-arranging of office furniture as requested by departments, replacing light bulbs, window cleaning, keeping bathrooms clean and supplied.
• May perform minor grounds keeping activities.
• Maintain awareness of activities and meetings scheduled each evening and ensures that rooms are unlocked and ready for use, may unlock equipment closets and to help set up equipment if necessary.
• Perform building security by securing buildings at the close of the day, note and report maintenance needs and signs of damage to the Head Custodian.

This is a non-union, temporary, part time position, up to 19 hours per week with possibility of becoming full time
Hours of work are Monday-Thursday 6:00am-10:00am, Friday 6:00am-9:30am
Pay rate is $30.56/hour
Position will remain open until filled.

A CORI check would only be completed on an applicant as a final step in the interview process. Any conditional offer of employment is contingent upon a successful CORI background check.
