Job summary

Boston is seeking a provisional appointment for a semiskilled maintenance worker to perform a variety of tasks in buildings and grounds. Under supervision, you will clean interiors and exteriors, move furniture, sweep and mop floors, and assist with minor repairs and painting.

The role requires knowledge of cleaning methods, physical fitness, and the ability to follow simple instructions. Massachusetts driver's license is preferred; union/salary terms AFSCME RA1-9L; 40 hours per week.

Job description

This is a provisional appointment.

Under supervision, performs a variety of ordinary maintenance tasks of a semiskilled nature to buildings and grounds.

• Performs window cleaning, interior and exterior.
• Cleans walls and lavatories.
• Moves furniture; sweeps and mops floors.
• May make adjustments and repairs to toilets, sinks, and drinking fountain mechanisms.
• May change bulbs.
• May paint and perform minor carpentry work.
• Cuts grass and trims bushes; strips, washes, and waxes floors.
• Performs all cleaning duties involved with buildings and grounds, shovels snow.
• Uses floor buffers, lawn mowers, weed whackers, snow blowers, and plow equipment that do not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
• Picks up refuse around grounds and performs related work as required.
