Job summary

Maricopa County Elections is seeking a Temporary BTC Operator to organize and process ballots, perform data entry, and support the November General Election. The role may require office, field, or customer-facing work with an anticipated October start date.

Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED, be a registered voter in Arizona or eligible by hire, and pass a background screening. Bilingual English/Spanish skills are valued for this position.

Qualifications

  • Ability to be a registered voter or become one in Arizona by hire date.
  • Pass a background screening and drug/alcohol tests as required.
  • Must be able to work overtime as needed.
  • Excellent penmanship required and preferred election experience.

Responsibilities

  • Organize bundles of ballots for tabulators or scanners, sorting and stacking.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of ballots using a number pad and keyboard.
  • Lift up to 50-pound ballot trays from racks to tabulation machines.
  • Stand and move ballots around the tabulation room during processing.
  • Support other Elections divisions or Recorder’s Office daily operations as needed.

Job description

Posting Date 08/24/26 Application Deadline Open Until Filled Pay Range Pay for this position is $18 hourly. About the Position

As a Temporary BTC Operator, you facilitate the election process by organizing and processing ballots and performing data entry. This position requires the employee to work in the office, in the field, or customer-facing for all hours worked. This is a temporary position supporting the November General Election with an anticipated start date in October.

Requirements

We Require This position requires a high school diploma or GED. Other Requirements Must be a registered voter or have the ability to become a registered voter in the State of Arizona by the time of hire Must pass an applicable background screening Must be able to work overtime as necessary Must have legible penmanship We Also Value One or more years of general office experience One or more years of moderate computer use experience One or more years of election experience Bilingual in English and Spanish

Job Contributions
  • Organizes bundles of ballots to feed into tabulators or scanners by sorting, stacking, and straightening bundles
  • Maintains accurate and legible documentation of ballots tabulated using a number pad on a keyboard
  • Lifts up to 50-pound ballot trays from racks to the tabulation machine
  • Stands throughout the assignment, moving ballots around the tabulation room for processing and organization
  • Assists other divisions within Elections or the Recorder’s Office with daily operations and additional job duties as assigned
Working Conditions

Full-time/Temporary/Holidays/Overtime hours are mandatory during the election cycle Requires upper extremity repetitive motion, the ability to review small fonts on hard copy or computer screen, the ability to lift floor-to-shoulder and shoulder-to-waist up to 50 pounds, and carry for 100 feet, and the ability to stand for extended periods of time All operations will be conducted under Livestream cameras and in the presence of political observers Must not engage in any political discussions Requires the use of proprietary elections-related software, a tabulation machine, scanners, and Microsoft Office products Closed-toed shoes must be worn at all times
