Job summary

Watertown Public Schools/James Russell Lowell Elementary School in Watertown, MA seeks a Short-Term Sub Instructional Assistant to support students with disabilities in accessing their education. This anticipated position runs through October 30, 2026, with pay of $139 per day.

Starting date is immediate. The role reports to the Principal and supports the classroom teacher with behavior support plans, data maintenance, and accommodations to help students engage with the curriculum.

Qualifications

• Flexibility with respect to age groups and assignments.
• Ability to follow through with directions.
• Experience supporting elementary students with significant learning and social/emotional needs.
• Experience implementing Behavior Intervention Plans and understanding functions of behaviors.
• Must have experience with or ability to learn ABA methodology and techniques.
• Ability to take initiative to complete tasks and assist with de-escalation.
• Ability to work collaboratively as a part of a team.
• Experience with, or ability to learn, PECS communication systems.

Responsibilities

• Maintain student data as directed by teachers / related service providers.
• Follow and implement behavior support plans as provided by teachers / related service providers.
• Provide overall support to the classroom teacher and student, based on needs.
• Incorporate knowledge of student learning styles to assist student learning.
• Recognize when strategies are not successful and adapt with guidance.
• Provide verbal support, prompting, redirection, and modeling for curriculum access.
• Perform other duties as required.
