Position Summary

To provide assistance to the Dental Providers during dental procedures, prepare operatory areas for patient visits, sterilize instruments, disinfect and restore operatory areas after use, and maintain dental equipment, supplies, and inventories.

Essential Functions

Dental Assistant Duties:

• Perform extra-oral duties and functions specified by the supervising dentist.
• Operate dental radiographic equipment for oral radiography if qualified under section 1656 of the Business and Professions Code.
• Take impressions for diagnostic and opposing models.
• Apply non-aerosol and non-caustic topical agents as directed by the dentist.
• Assist Dental Providers in administering nitrous oxide for analgesia or sedation.
• Hold anterior matrices and remove sutures.
• Give patients home care instructions post-procedure.
• Apply topical fluoride after scaling and polishing by the Dentist or Registered Dental Hygienist.

Registered Dental Assistant Duties:

• Perform all duties of a Dental Assistant.
• Inspect the oral cavity, record dental findings, and take quality radiographs.
• Remove cement excess, size crowns and bands, and remove cement after crown placement.
• Place orthodontic separators, arch wires, and ligatures.
• Perform coronal polishing as per ADA standards (requires certification).
• Assist in dental procedures, prepare operatory areas, and understand dental materials and terminology.
• Present oral hygiene and nutrition counseling.
• Must have passed or be studying for the RDA certification, with ongoing certification maintenance.
• Place dental sealants and demonstrate proficiency in NextGen Dental Records.
• Perform other duties as directed by the Supervising Dentist.

Education and Experience

• Current RDA license or studying for certification.
• Radiation safety, CPR, and coronal polishing certificates or studying for them.

Physical Demands
