Job summary

City of Ellensburg is seeking a Temporary Accountant in the Finance Department to support the ERP implementation across accounting functions. The role emphasizes accuracy, independence, and strong collaboration with City departments.

It is a 18–24 month position with benefits. Ideal candidates will have a bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance and at least three years of government accounting experience, including BARS and GASB, with experience in ERP environments and strong data validation

Qualifications

• Requires a Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance with 3+ years government accounting experience including BARS and GASB
• Must be quick learner who can work independently within policies and procedures
• Ability to balance and reconcile accounts and prepare financial reports
• Strong attention to detail and ability to adapt to changing priorities
• Experience with ERP financial management systems is a plus

Responsibilities

• Maintain knowledge of and assist with accounts payable, payroll, cash receipting, treasury functions, inventory, fixed assets, project accounting, and general ledger processes
• Collaborate with City departments to understand processes and workflows
• Perform audits, reconciliations, data validation, and data extraction for accounting transactions
• Reconcile, balance, adjust, and maintain assigned accounts per BARS, GAAP, and City policies
• Prepare and maintain financial reports, schedules, and supporting workpapers
• Support budget, financial analysis, audit, and special projects
• Assist in transition planning and cross-training to preserve continuity during ERP implementation
• Other duties as assigned
