Job summary

Calvert County Government is seeking an experienced grounds maintenance supervisor to lead care and maintenance of County facilities and properties. This hands-on role blends leadership with skilled grounds work to keep County spaces safe, attractive, and well maintained.

You will supervise staff, coordinate tasks, inspect equipment, and ensure safety and environmental compliance, while coordinating with other departments and contractors.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in landscaping management or related field.
• Five years of progressively responsible grounds maintenance experience with supervisory or lead worker role.
• Valid Class A restricted CDL and Medical Examiner’s Certificate.
• Pesticide applicator certifications for turf/ornamental/right-of-way (MD) within six months.
• Subject to background investigation and emergency call-back.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate daily work assignments for grounds maintenance personnel.
• Monitor maintenance activities and report issues to management.
• Schedule seasonal grounds maintenance and coordinate support services.
• Coordinate contractor access and monitor contracted work for compliance with specifications.
• Inspect equipment, vehicles, and tools for safety and maintenance.
• Train staff on procedures, equipment use, and workplace safety.
• Maintain records of maintenance activities and inspections.
• Collaborate with departments and contractors.
