Are you a transitioning military service member or a Military Spouse looking for an internship that supports the goal to put health first?

The Telephonic Care Manager Behavioral Health, Registered Nurse, RN, Intern will assess and evaluate members' needs and requirements to achieve and/or maintain optimal wellness by guiding members and families toward appropriate resources for their care and wellbeing. The Behavioral Health Care Manager’s work assignments are varied and often require interpretation and independent decision-making.

The DOD SkillBridge Internship Program offers transitioning military service members the opportunity to gain civilian work experience with an employer for 90 to 180 days upon approval.

The Behavioral Health Care Manager, Telephonic Intern will utilize Humana’s Medicaid training and existing skills to manage members' physical, environmental, and psychosocial health issues through various strategies and techniques.

  1. Identify and resolve barriers to effective care.
  2. Monitor patient progress through assessments and evaluations.
  3. Create member care plans as needed.
  4. Understand departmental, segment, and organizational strategies and objectives.
  5. Make decisions regarding work methods independently, handling ambiguous situations with minimal guidance.
  6. Follow established guidelines and procedures.
  7. Contribute to continuous improvement of consumer experiences.

Required Qualifications

  1. Must be a transitioning service member eligible for SkillBridge or a military spouse eligible for the military spouse fellowship.
  2. Must meet one of the following:
    • Unrestricted active RN license in a participating state.
    • Master's degree in social work, nursing, rehabilitation, psychology, or related field with independent licensure in South Carolina.
  3. Must meet all of the following:
    • At least two years of clinical nursing experience in acute care, emergency, ICU, skilled, or rehabilitation settings.
    • Proficiency in MS Office and ability to troubleshoot basic technical issues remotely.
    • Ability to work independently and in a team.
    • Experience working with serious mental illness populations and behavioral health members, using Motivational Interviewing and positive techniques.
    • One year of care coordination experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  2. Experience in behavioral health settings.
  3. Interest in managed care industry.
  4. Previous Medicare/Medicaid experience.
  5. Experience with case management, discharge planning, and patient education.
  6. Managed care experience.
  7. Certified Case Manager (CCM) certification.

Additional Requirements / Adherence

  • Remote work at home with a dedicated, interruption-free workspace.
  • Preferred location: South Carolina or other Humana Medicaid state locations.
  • Work schedule: Weekdays, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Eastern Time.
  • No travel required.

For work-from-home employees, internet speed must meet minimum requirements: 25 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload. Satellite, cellular, and microwave connections require approval. Employees in specific states will receive internet expense support. Humana provides necessary telephone equipment.

Interview process includes pre-recorded video and/or SMS text interviews via HireVue. Candidates will be notified of next steps after review.

Current or former LDH employees working directly with LDH’s Medicaid Division are ineligible for this role unless separated for over two years.

While this is a remote position, occasional travel to Humana offices may be required.
