Job summary

Morgan Murphy Media's WIKB-FM Iron River, MI is seeking a Telephone Time Host to lead the long-running local talk show. You will inform, entertain, and support advertisers, coordinating live sponsor schedules and calls while keeping conversations engaging with a friendly approach.

The position is .75 time, scheduled 8AM-1PM Monday through Friday, with potential for Saturday editions and additional duties as needed. Proficiency with MS Office and strong communication skills are essential.

Responsibilities

Job description

Listen UP Radio, WIKB-FM is a part of the Morgan Murphy Media company. We are a family-owned, people first business found in Iron River, MI, and our community is at the core of what we do and who we are. We are looking for a Telephone Time Host to join our radio staff. 99.1 WIKB-FM is Iron County’s communication leader.

Scheduled hours will be 8AM-1PM, Monday through Friday, with added hours as needed or as proficiency warrants additional duties. This is a .75 position with room for advancement.

What You will Do:

You will be the host of “Telephone Time”, for over 60 years the Upper Peninsula’s longest, continuous local talk show. From 9AM-12N you will inform, entertain, and support local advertisers and get the word out to your Iron County audience and surrounding areas. You’ll achieve this by:

• Having great conversations with your audience
• Welcoming guests in the studio or over the phone to allow them to “sell” their product, service, or event. Preparing for the interviews, while allowing your curiosity to speak to your audience.
• Using the tools available in the studio to keep the content fresh.
• Treating each caller as a friend that you are speaking with.
• Handling the chaos of live radio by multitasking with a cool demeanor.
• Using fellow employees when necessary to complete your tasks
• Having additional material that can be used to keep the conversation going as necessary.
• Coordination of Live Sponsor schedules and calls, live and recorded copy, updating and receiving mailbag/event listings, garage sale lists, and updating X feeds during show. Some help will come from the Telephone Time assistant.

• May be required from time to time to host the Saturday edition of the show.
• May have additional duties as needed by absence or necessity. May need to prerecord interviews and other segments outside of typical Telephone Time hours.
• May have additional board hours assigned when necessary.
• Voiceovers when needed for the production department
