Responsibilities

  • Operates and maintains a telephone switchboard and paging services for staff and callers.
  • Locates and alerts staff for trauma and cardiac arrests; notifies authorities for emergencies.
  • Coordinates and maintains doctor’s and locums’ home and cellular numbers.
  • Provides 24/7 internal and external operator assistance to all departments.

The Department of Human Resources is accepting applications for the following position.

Job Title: Telephone Operator
Department: Communication
Reports to: Switchboard Supervisor
Salary: $15,080.00
Summary:

This is a front-line, first impression position requiring a person who is a customer-service oriented with a professional and positive attitude; while promoting a positive work environment. The telephone operator provides caller-related assistance and information to all internal and external callers. Provide rapid, accurate and courteous telephone communications and provide efficient service for response to various emergency situations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Answers all incoming calls to The Medical Center’s main telephone number and other types of in-bound telephone services as directed, as soon as possible
  • Answers and processes all emergency calls including code calls.
  • Responds when fire alarm activates and follow procedures
  • Operates and maintain a telephone switchboard in providing a rapid, accurate, courteous telephone communications and paging services to the public, medical staff, nursing and/or on-call services.
  • Locates and alerts the professional staff for trauma and cardiac arrests. Notifies the proper authorities for all emergency situations.
  • Able to sit for a long periods of time and wear headphones.
  • Works every other weekend and every other holiday as stated by the Medical Center’s Human Resources Department.
  • Test documents fire drills, hospital codes and other emergency drills
  • Coordinates and maintains doctor’s and locum’s home and cellular telephone numbers
  • Provides internal and external phone operator assistance to all departments of the hospital 24/7.
Minimum Qualifications/Requirements
  • Require High School Diploma
  • 2 to 5 years of related experience.
  • Experience in handling emergency situations efficiently and effectively without supervision
  • Demonstrates human relation and effective communication skills required
  • Must be flexible to work different rotating shifts and weekends
  • Good customer service skills and ability to communicate effectively and strongly in writing and orally
  • Must be bilingual in Samoan and English
