Qualifications

• CPR certification is required.
• High school diploma or equivalent is required; didactic and clinical base EKG examinations must be completed with a 90% rhythm test.

Responsibilities

• Gives/accepts shift report to provide accurate and current patient information with each shift change.
• Assists with answering unit telephones, patient call lights and visitor inquiries in a professional and courteous manner.
• Keeps assigned work area neat and clean at all times; ensures safe disposal of monitor batteries.
• Pulls six-second strips every four hours (or as needed) and documents rate and rhythm to capture arrhythmias or changes.
• Reports any changes immediately to the charge nurse.
• Ensures patient identification on post strips and monitors central screens at all times.
• Alerts charge nurse to missing orders or prolonged monitoring of stable rhythms to facilitate telemetry utilization.
• Informs Biomedical Engineering of malfunctioning equipment and maintains repair records.
• Coordinates with environmental services for area cleaning and dead battery disposal.
