Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent. Successful completion of didactic and clinical base EKG examinations.
• CPR certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Gives/accepts shift report to provide current patient information with each shift change.
• Answers unit telephones, patient call lights, and visitor inquiries professionally.
• Keeps assigned work area neat and clean and ensures safe disposal of monitor batteries.
• Pulls six-second strips every four hours, records rate and rhythm to capture arrhythmias or changes.
• Verifies patient identity and room number on post strips for safety.
• Monitors central screens and alerts charge nurse to missing orders or prolonged monitoring.
• Alerts Biomedical Engineering for malfunctioning equipment and keeps repair records.
• Assists in orientation of new staff and participates in educational opportunities.

Education
